SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION HBA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

HBA’s Charitable Foundation.  Every year we grant scholarships to both MSU and OTC students going into the construction and design fields.  I have attached a scholarship form and would ask that you provide it to whomever will promote it to the appropriate students.  At MSU it goes to incoming Juniors and Seniors in those programs however, OTC gives it to incoming Freshmen and Sophomores.  That means anyone who graduates high school this year and wants to attend OTC and pursue a construction degree is eligible.  Historically there has not been a lot of competition for these scholarships and we would like to see more interested students apply.  Thank you in advance for your help promoting this!

Arkansas State Privately Funded Scholarship Application-

I hope you had a great fall semester!  We have now opened the link to the Privately-Funded Scholarship application at A-State.  All students are eligible to apply for these scholarships each year. The scholarships are awarded by alumni and donors of the university.  Each scholarship has different requirements, which are determined by the person(s) who donated the funds. Scholarships are for full-time students and require evidence of scholastic achievement and/or outstanding ability in the area of the award. Scholarships vary in amounts and duration of the award.

Arkansas State has made it very easy for students to apply for these scholarships. Simply complete the online application to automatically apply for all Privately-Funded Scholarships available at Arkansas State.  Parents and students should be aware that being awarded a scholarship is not guaranteed, but it is an opportunity I encourage.  The online application is located at www.astate.edu/scholarships and click Privately Funded Scholarships.

When you begin the application process, you create an account that allows you to log back into your application at any time to make changes or update until the deadline.  It allows you to upload your student resume, letters of recommendation, and/or personal statement. I recommend that you upload these documents because they help make your application standout from other students who only complete the online application.

The annual deadline to apply for the A-State Privately-Funded Scholarships is FEBRUARY 1, 2018, 5:00 P.M. CSTPlease note that applications submitted by the February 1st deadline are valid for the entire 18-19 award year.  Students are notified by mail if they are selected for one of the many scholarships available.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at rdabul@astate.edu or 870.972.ASU2.

Missouri COURAGE Scholarship

The 2018 Missouri Courage Scholarship (MCS) application is open now through March 31st! Please help us share this opportunity--and the attached flyer--with students at your high school.

Since 2016, MCS has awarded over $25,000 to students who demonstrate courage in the face of adversity and who are dedicated to LGBTQ equality and social justice. The application is open to college-bound seniors graduating from Missouri high schools.

The application is available at Courage-Scholarship.org and is open until March 31, 2018.

MCS has three categories of awards:

  • Missouri Courage Award (MCA) is for Missouri students who have demonstrated their commitment and show great potential to work for change in their community that advances the lives of LGBTQ people and other social justice causes.
  • Rural Courage Award (RCA) is intended for students residing in rural Missouri communities who meet the MCA qualifications. Any applicants from Dent County will be given preference in the selection criteria.
  • Trans Courage Award (TCA) is intended for transgender and non-binary students who meet the MCA qualifications.

Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $3,000. Missouri Courage Scholarship also performs outreach and application screening for partner organizations. This year, Pride St. Charles and GLSEN of Greater Kansas City are funding scholarships for students from their respective regions based on 2018 MCS applications.

If you have questions, please reply to this email (genevieve@courage-scholarship.org). Thank you for helping us get the word out to deserving students!

**BEWARE OF SCHOLARSHIP SCAMS**

The Federal Trade Commission offers the following signs that a scholarship is not legitimate.

  • “The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back.”
  • “You can’t get this information anywhere else.”
  • “May I have your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship?”
  • “We’ll do all the work.”
  • “The scholarship will cost you some money.”
  • “You’ve been selected by a national foundation to receive a scholarship,” or “You’re a finalist” in a contest you never entered.
